Selfishly I want him to return to Alabama and win a Heisman Trophy and National Championship as a full-time starter, but it's definitely the right decision to declare for the draft.
I honestly can't put into words how much Tua means to me and the fanbase. Sure he's just a football player, but he was truly special on and off the field. It's hard to explain, but Saban was nearly crying when he was injured against Mississippi State. That tells you all you need to know lol.
It's very unfortunate he's dealt with so many injuries, but we'll always have the National Championship win over Georgia and 2 years (+1 game) of elite QB play. It may not have ended the way we wanted it to, but overall he had a great career. Better than anyone can reasonably ask for.

The way you feel about Tua, is the same way I felt about Baker Mayfield. Sure, Kyler and Jalen are awesome, no question. But it's that one guy who elevated the fans, the game, the experience.
I'll never forget the 2018 Rose Bowl against Georgia. My Sooners win that game, they're in the National Championship. Had the Sooners had a defense, they'd probably end up victorious but it wasn't meant to be.
Basically, Baker is to me, what Tua is to you, but with +1 CFP championship.

Seriously, how is Saban not getting more criticism for this? Everyone remembers the criticism Steve Kerr and the Warriors took for Durant's injury in the Finals, but apparently Saban gets off easy when putting a hurt kid into a situation he wasn't even needed? There is no way Tua should have played against Miss St., yet he did and now his season is over, his draft stock will take a hit and all for a win the Tide were going to get anyways.
Obviously Saban is never getting fired, but the fact media just ignores what happened is ridiculous.

I've been waiting since 1988... I was 3 then.
Does he leave early, or does he come back for his senior year?
Honestly I think he should come back one more year. If he comes out this year, while injured, there's no way he is drafted #1 overall. Hell he may slip out of the first round all-together (2nd round would be MUCH better than the end of the first round). HE can come back to form at Bama next year and get back to #1 overall status....
And as I'm typing this I realize that is a stupid idea for him. He will fall in the draft. Right to teams selecting at the end of the 1st round. Bill Belichick will need a backup QB, and what better option than snatching up a #1 overall talent between picks 29-32. He can sit behind Brady for a couple years, heal and learn behind the master.

Notre Dame didn't lose a BCS Championship game in 2013 after the 2012 season? Notre Dame didn't lose any games that season....
But if they did, Manti Te'o's had an invisible Girlfriend, and he pulled a Jesus like the day before the game. His head was not in the game. If that didn't happen.... They'd still lose because they were inferior to them that year. But it may not have been as bad.

I'd love for Tua to come back to Alabama, stay healthy the full season, win a Heisman Trophy and National Championship, and then go #1 in the draft.
However it's way too much of a risk. He absolutely shouldn't play for free and risk getting injured again and potentially lose millions of dollars.

How is Alabama still ranked #5? They've played 3 non-Power conference schools (bad ones at that...records: 2-9, 7-4, 3-9) and one Power conference school (Duke...record: 4-7) in their nonconference schedule and the ONLY decent team they've played this year they lost to on their home field.
If Utah and/or Oklahoma win out, they should both jump Alabama (Oklahoma arguably should already be ahead of them, given their win at Baylor and their only loss on the road at 7-4 K-State).
EDIT: Just to detail Alabama's terrible schedule, here's the in-conference wins:
South Carolina (4-7)
Ole Miss (4-7)
Texas A&M (7-4)
Tennessee (6-5)
Arkansas (2-9)
Miss State (5-6)
When your best wins are against a Texas A&M team whose best win is Miss St. and a Tennessee team who lost to Georgia St and BYU to start the season, then you know you have a terrible schedule.

Slyfox, Its because they are Alabama. Simple as that. If they were a Big 10 or Pac 12 school, they would be ranked 7-10.
Everybody will make a huge deal if they beat Auburn (Also ranked too high) and then they won't take another loss because the SEC Championship will be LSU Georgia.
It feels like we will have another year with 2 SEC teams in the playoffs (LSU/Georgia is Georgia wins; LSU/Alabama if LSU wins)

I know this is supposed to be about college football and the NFL, but I thought this was worth sharing.
My high school football team lost to their biggest rival 8 years in a row. This year we finally ended the streak and won in a blowout. In the closing minutes, the WR who dropped the game winning TD last season caught a one handed TD pass to go up 31-10. Then they fumbled the ball, and we kneeled at the goal line to close out the game.
Then we played them again in the playoffs and overcame a 17 point defect to win 33-30 on a walkoff TD in OT.
It couldn't have been any sweeter.

It's a combination of a lot of things. Injuries (most notably our top defensive player Dylan Moses), a lack of depth, and constant coaching turnaround (3 DCs in 3 years).
We've also had some bad turnovers that led to a short field and quick score. LSU scored 10 points off turnovers. Auburn had 2 pick 6s today.

Notre Dame was better than Alabama this year.Your post is a great example of the bias in the polls. Sports media, particularly ESPN, has long worked to diminish Notre Dame's accomplishments because Notre Dame refuses to sign a TV contract with them. Meanwhile, ESPN owns the SEC network.
Notre Dame has beaten three legitimate Top 25 teams and their only losses have come ON THE ROAD to Georgia and Michigan, both teams ranked in the Top 20 (Georgia is #4). Alabama lost AT HOME to LSU and on the road to Auburn. Also, you're looking at teams rankings when they played them, not currently. Texas A&M is not a Top 25 team anymore and never should have been (thanks SEC bias!).
Notre Dame has wins against Va Tech (just dropped out of Top 25), Virginia (#22), Navy (#23) and USC (#24). They have three wins against current Top 25 teams (and one win against a team that just dropped out). Alabama, on the other hand, has ZERO Top 25 wins. Alabama's best win of the season was against 7-5 Texas A&M.
It's a JOKE that Alabama is still Top 10. And for Notre Dame, their ranking is at least somewhat understandable, but I still think they should be ranked higher. Three Top 25 wins is nothing to sneeze at.

Definitely. Auburn fans expectations are too high. Gus has 3 wins over Saban, a National Championship appearance, and 2 NY6 bowl appearances.

HE'S 0-2 in NY6 games, one to my Sooners in '17, and the other to UCF in '18.
I'm 50/50 on whether he's solidified himself as a "good coach". He has beaten 'Bama 3 times so there's that.
A for the schedule, Auburn did have a very difficult schedule this season, but nowhere near as difficult as South Carolina or Texas A&M.

You can't beat Saban 3 times and not be considered good. Gus is a little inconsistent, but that's going to happen in the SEC West and playing Georgia from the East every year.
I haven't looked it up, but I'd be shocked if Auburn didn't have one of the 5 hardest schedules in college football. Taking away the result of their game against Auburn, they've played 10-1 Oregon, 11-0 LSU, 9-2 Florida, 10-1 Georgia, and 10-1 Alabama. How much more difficult can it get?

Barry Odom was pretty bad. Very unfortunate that Gary Pinkel had to retire.Meh, Gary Pinkel had run his course too. Don't get me wrong, Pinkel was a great coach for Mizzou and he brought us some good teams and great moments, but the signs were there the program was starting to falter. Maybe he could have righted the ship if he had been completely healthy, but Pinkel stepped down at the right time.
But, yeah, Odom was terrible and should have been fired after last year's bowl game when he nearly single-handedly cost Mizzou the game with terrible coaching. I never was a huge fan of his hire.
No one really expected Matt Luke to be good. He was hired to deal with the sanctions and bridge the gap between Hugh Freeze and the next coach.
Chad Morris at Arkansas is one of the worst head coaching runs of all time. No hyperbole.Yeah, it really is fascinating how Ole Miss couldn't win when they weren't openly cheating...
Also, Arkansas hasn't been relevant since Bobby Petrino fell of a motorcycle. Obviously Morris wasn't the answer, but I'm guessing they have bigger problems in the system than just the head coach.
Did Mahlzan's victory over 'Bama save his job at Auburn?Probably, but it shouldn't.
If you think a coach isn't the right person to get the job done, one win shouldn't change your mind. Either he's good enough or he's not and basing that decision around one home game is silly. For what it is worth, I don't think Auburn will do better than Mahlzan, but if they do, then one game shouldn't change their mind.
Auburn could've easily been 7-5 or 6-6 this season. Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M is a brutal schedule.I was with you until the end. A&M has no business being considered with those other teams. Also, I think Florida is/was overrated this season. Take away the home game against Auburn after a de facto bye week and what are you left with? A bunch of wins against nobodies.

We had a bad schedule this season. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and South Carolina are average at best. Our OOC schedule is one of the worst in the country. Of 4 teams, 7-5 Southern Miss was the best team we played OOC. That's unacceptable for a team successful as Alabama has been. The fact is we played 2 difficult games and lost both. Sure we could've won both, but you shouldn't get rewarded for what ifs.
I'd like to see some big changes to how the SEC schedules games. 9 conference games is a great start. Of the 13 other teams in the conference, we only play 8 teams every season and 7 of those games are locked in. So we only play 6 SEC teams (Missouri, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky) once every 6 years.

Dang. The committee does not like 'Bama. Alabama is still ranked ahead of Notre Dame, despite having done nothing to deserve it.
I think #12 is more than fair for Alabama. I think we all know if Oregon State had played the exact same schedule as Bama, they'd be lower than #12. Don't believe me? Look at Minnesota.
The SEC isn't going to change their schedule, because they LOVE the fact that their teams can play weak out of conference schedules and be rewarded for it with high rankings in the polls.
It's a circular argument. The SEC starts with a high rank (based purely on speculation), play a bunch of nobodies in out of conference games (Auburn and LSU deserve mentions for not doing that this year) which only boosts their rankings, so when the SEC teams play each other, it is a matchup of one high ranked team against another, so when one of those teams lose, the voters say "Well, sure SEC team #2 lost to #1, but look at how high #1's ranking is!".
It's a circular argument and a game the SEC has been playing for well over a decade. Remember how everyone said scores in the SEC were so low because the "defenses were just so good"? I do. And that was a load of crap then, as we see with the 40+ points being scored regularly now in the SEC.
The SEC, with willing financial partner ESPN, has been undermining legitimacy in college football for a long time.

Tennessee fans are so cocky for a team that lost to Georgia State and BYU this season. They went 7-5 this season, but they act like they won the SEC. Michigan fans can be unreasonable, but they've at least won 10 games and been to a NY6 bowl recently. Tennessee hasn't accomplished anything.

I actually like some of these bowl match-ups. Florida didn't deserve the Orange, Penn State got lucky with the Cotton, and Georgia drops 1 spot? Hmm. I agree with teams outside the top20 getting NY6 games. However, the Orange Bowl takes the #1 ACC team even if the champ is in the CFP.
I do like Wisky getting that Rose Bowl bid. As I previously stated, they should have gotten the bid over both Penn State/Minnesota.

Julian Edelman is nowhere close to being in the Hall of Fame.
He has just 6,400 yards and 36 TDs in his career. He has no Pro Bowls or All Pros. Until this season, his highest finish in receiving yards was 13th, and that's his only season in the Top 20. Does that really sound like one of the greatest WRs of all time? He has great postseason stats, but any good WR who spends their entire career with the greatest HC and QB of all time will.
For reference, Edelman had just 714 yards until he turned 27. Tyreek Hill has nearly 4,000 yards, and he's just 25. Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt both had over 13,000 yards and aren't in the HOF.

How terrible Bobby Petrino was and how much he wasted Lamar Jackson can't be understated. Lamar carried Louisville to 8-9 wins and was ranked #3 after scoring 63 points on Orange Bowl winner Florida State.
After Lamar left for the NFL, Louisville went 2-10 and Petrino was fired. Their average loss was 32 points. Their average loss to ranked opponents was 44 points. Their only 2 wins were against an FCS team and 3-9 Western Kentucky.

- With Tom Brady and Terrell Davis both 6th rounders Brown isn't even close. Both combined with 8 Super Bowls

Say what you want about Antonio Brown (and there's a LOT you can say), but he's entertaining.

After 9 weeks, the Panthers were 5-3. The Falcons and Buccaneers were a combined 3-13.
6 weeks later, the Panthers are last in the division.

What do Bowling Green, SMU, Appalachian State, Western Michigan, BYU, Toledo, Troy, North Texas, Rutgers, Louisiana Tech, Boston College, East Carolina, Tulane, Duke, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Virginia, Cincinnati, Memphis, Boise State, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Kansas State, Oregon State, and Kansas all have in common?
They ALL have a higher ranked recruiting class than USC, who's ranked 78th.

USC needs to get rid of Clay Helton. He had one good year in 2016 and ever since the Trojans have gone downhill.

One Notre Dame recruit puts ketchup on his ice cream, and another is a flat earther. Which is worse?

A Michigan player thinks they're more talented than Ohio State. They lost by 29.

The SEC is leaving CBS in 4 more years.
If they bring Gary Danielson, I'm protesting.

Danielson is awful. Nessler is cool though.

Great news for Packers fans, Kirk Cousins has the worst winning percentage on Monday Night Football in history.
He's 0-8.

I wonder if CBS will pick up another conference when their deal ends. Or maybe the Notre Dame conference if their NBC deal ends at some point. Apparently DisnESPN are offering $300M, so I c an't say that I blame them for backing out.
With NFL TV rights negotiations coming it makes sense to not put all your eggs in that one basket.

I don't see Notre Dame signing with anyone other than NBC, assuming NBC wants them and is willing to pay.

I agree, just saying IF NBC decides to go in another direction.

The NFL really needs to change how they determine the spot of the ball.
Surely there's better technology available than a couple of referees basically guessing.

Rams are in a very rough position. No first round picks for the next 2 years. Gurley is nowhere close to the same player, and Goff is one of the most overpaid players in NFL history.
They sacrificed their future for a Super Bowl, and now they have neither.

1st round picks in 2020 and 2021. Ramsey wasn't worth it.

LOL. Not worth it. And the Rams got rid of Marcus Peters too who is on the best team in the NFL right now. Fire their GM.
