**Slyfox Note - The first few posts in this thread were removed from the previous year's thread...in case the OP seems random. :) **

I've defended Alabama's OOC schedule in the past, but we at least played teams like Wisconsin, USC, and Florida State. Next season is just embarrassing. A neutral site vs Duke and 3 cupcakes at home. Seeing Alabama fans try to defend it is hilarious.

I see what you're saying. However, many schools have games set up years in advance. I believe Bama has played a non-conference Power five team since Saban has been at the helm, no? So yes, Duke is a power 5 school but maybe that's the only P5 school available that fit Alabama's non-conference slate for 2019.

It's very clear Alabama wants an easy OOC schedule. They could easily schedule better teams.

It wouldn't be so bad if they played an actual road game and replaced the FCS game before the Iron Bowl with another P5 opponent earlier in the season.

Something like Duke, @Penn State (or any good P5 school), Southern Miss, and New Mexico State would be fine to me.

But a neutral site vs one of the weaker P5 programs in the country and 3 cupcakes at home is horrible.

It's been Bama's MO for years though. They rarely schedule actual good P5 schools on the road and when other top P5 teams try to propose home and homes, Bama counters with a game in Tuscaloosa and then at neutral site. Their success is frustrating, but their inability to travel outside of the South is even more so. A lot of SEC schools are guilty of it, but Georgia is the worst offender. It's only been something like three or four times since 1980 that they have played a true non conference road game west of the Mississippi River or North of the Mason Dixon line.

The advanced scheduling thing is a good point, but Bama has paid millions of dollars to buy out away games in the last few years so they could schedule different opponents. FSU is a big offender of that outside the SEC.

I'm not disagreeing with either of you, and you both make solid points. However, the point I was trying to make is that at least the Crimson Tide schedules P5 opponents. I don't care if it's Duke, Oregon State, or Rutgers. The attempt is that Bama will schedule P5 teams. This coming from an Oklahoma fan.

Let's play game called "Guess who the NFL suspended this time!"

Tom Brady because he was "generally aware" that footballs were deflated during a playoff game vs the Colts. The footballs undeniably gave the Patriots a competitive advantage even though they only outscored the Colts 17-7 with the balls and 28-0 without.

or

Tyreek Hill because he allegedly abused his 3 year old son. His 3 year old had a broken arm, and Hill allegedly punches him in the chest. On an audio recording, his wife told him their son was terrified of him, and he said "you better be terrified of me too, b----". He also has a history of domestic violence.

Surely it's Tyreek Hill, right?

I'm super late to this, but every P5 team except for maybe 4 or 5 schedules an OOC P5 team next season. It's not a big deal at all.

I've never understood people who say it's better to get blown out than lose a close game.

For example my high school was once down 28-7 going into the 4th against our rival. We outscore them 21-0 only to lose 35-34 in double OT on a missed extra point.

It was a crushing defeat, but I'll take it 10/10 times over our 37-0 loss 2 seasons later.

While I may not agree with it, I think the rationale is sound. If you're gonna lose anyway a fan may rather not ever have their team in the game, so that they do not have the emotional highs and lows that come with a back and forth game.

Metaphorically speaking, if you were to fall, would you rather fall from where you're standing or would you rather climb up higher and then hit the same place?

In collegiate sports, that rationale is mathematically incorect, as close losses help rankings more than blowouts. in professional sports that is not the case as records are all that matters in reaching the postseason.

Anyone who doesn't understand how big of a joke the NCAA is at this point is either under the age of 12 or an idiot.

To go along with this, various other NCAA violations over the years:

Dan Issel (best Kentucky Wildcat in history) was at a camp in Denver, where he was GM of the Denver Nuggets at the time and held no position at UK other than alumnus.

High school player: "Did you like UK?"

Issel: "Yeah it was great."

That's a violation.

Ball player is walking around campus in a severe thunderstorm/tornado watch. Coach gives him a ride back to his dorm instead of having him walk over a mile IN A TORNADO WATCH.

That's a violation.

Coach bought a player a pizza because his food money hadn't kicked in yet and the player hadn't eaten in two days.

That's a violation.

Oklahoma won a bowl game and was given a banquet. The players were told to go up and get more food. The NCAA said that they received "improper benefits" by having an extra plate of pasta and had to make it right by making a charitable donation equal to the value of the pasta, which was less than $20 combined between the two of them. To avoid looking like two morons donating about $7 each, they made it $25 each out of their own pocket. Over improper pasta benefits.

The NCAA is an absolute joke. They literally have a history of letting sex crimes get less punishments than player payments and "improper benefits." MSU had multiple people who were found guilty of criminal charges in the Nassar/sexual abuse case, and face nothing major, if anything at all. Baylor's football program was found to be turning a blind eye to sexual predators on their team when Art Briles was the coach, and they faced no major fallout.

Two of the biggest punishments handed down by the NCAA in the last 35ish years, in regards to CFB at least, were the death penalty to SMU in the 80s for paying players and lying about it, and stripping Reggie Bush of his Heisman for having boosters at USC pay him and his family.

And it isn't like it really matters much to the NCAA what the few people who face any sort of punishment for stuff like that do post punishment anyway. I guarantee Urban Meyer is gonna end up coaching in the Pac 12 in two or three years despite the recent documents coming out that showed he and everyone else on his staff were more concerned about losing dickbag wife beater Zack Smith to a rival school than they were about getting him help. Hugh Freeze was calling hookers and escort services from his school issues cell phone (which I get isn't as bad as some of the other high profile cases of a similar nature) and left Ole Miss is shambles and still gets a job at Liberty a couple years later, which is funny as hell considering Jerry Falwell is the founder of the school.

Hell, it isn't like any punishment really matters. How many times has there been a coach, in any sport, who will leave a school amid rumors and allegations of violations and they get hired on somewhere else almost right away while leaving the program a mess? Their old school gets hits with the punishments but their new school rarely faces anything.

Football and basketball being cleared was fine. Nassar? Nope. This was so poorly handled. I'm a fan of MSU, that's my team. The Nassar deal was so awful and damaging. It was an even bigger deal inside of Michigan. All local press beat this drum for more than a year, and rightfully so.

Few days late, but I donâ??t think Iâ??ve seen such knee jerk reactions for one team so much as the 49ers the past year and a half. They pick up Garoppolo late in 17 and win a few games. Many pick them as possible playoff contenders for 18, forgetting the rest of that team was trash. He gets injured and they do poorly, likely close to their results with him anyway, but thatâ??s just my opinion. Now heâ??s back, but has one bad preseason game, and now heâ??s suddenly trash. How about we get a better sample size from him? Not just as a 49er, but a quarterback period. Iâ??m not going to spend any time looking up exactly how much, but he doesnâ??t have much playing time under his belt anyway. 49ers took a chance because he performed decently under a different team. Wait and see. They still need a lot of help.

I understand they were upset, but goodness your franchise QB had to retire early due to injuries (partially due to the incompetence of the front office) and you boo him off the field? Is that really how you want him going out?

Clearly they will regret booing him. I feel terrible for him, but you need to look at it from the fans perspective.

They're stitting at the game (paying full price for a preseason game which is a different topic for a different day), and they find out via Adam Shefter's Twitter that the star quarterback who is supposed to bring them to a Super Bowl (hell this year could have been their year) is gonna retire 2 weeks before the start of the season. They see him standing on the sideline chatting with his teammates. What reaction should they have? Cheer the guy who (lets be honest here) is screwing over their season?

Plus it isn't like the injuries were career ending injuries. It was just continuously having different injuries taking the mans will to play. If he was unable to come back from the shoulder thing the fans in attendance would likely understand more, but he did come back from that.

It is really terrible. What's worse is that my first reaction (after the shock) was to add Jacoby Brissett to my fantasy team.

When they booed him he was not retiring due to injuries he was just retiring and they were told by a third party. That was the only information available. Sure he had a few injuries but the guy was sitting out preseason with a calf injury that was not at all career threatening.

This is what they knew at the time (Adam Shefters tweet breaking the news).

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

I'm looking really hard and I do not see anything about injuries. I guess the fans in attendance are mind readers? He came back from the potential career ending injury and had a minor injury to his calf so it isn't like he is injured.

Besides, the Colts knew earlier in the week. Why wait until the planned press conference SUNDAY? You weren't gonna sell tickets based on him playing since he was not gonna play anyway. Letting the fans find out from a third party was embarrassing on their part and likely helped lead to the booing.

Again, I'm not in favor of booing him. It was wrong and they'll regret it (if they don't already). But with the limited information they had available to them and they way it was handled, it isn't really that surprising.

You don't have to be a mind reader to connect dots. I did it immediately upon seeing the news that he was retiring (without having any other information at the time).

Furthermore, I would expect Colts fans to know this: Source (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/colts-gm-andrew-luck-calf-strain-now-high-ankle-issue-not-ready-to-say-regular-season-in-jeopardy/)

In other words, what was originally supposed to be a minor injury was going to have Luck out for an undetermined amount of time.

This wasn't out of the blue. I would assume Colts fans knew he was injured yet again and that there was no real timeline for his return. You don't have to be a mind reader to connect those dots.

But with the limited information they had available to them and they way it was handled, it isn't really that surprising. Not surprising, but still wrong and inappropriate, even at the time. In the last 2 weeks, both of Alabama's starting ILB's (Josh McMillon and Dylan Moses) have torn their ACL and will miss this season.

Moses could've been the best LB in the nation. He was the leader of our defense and the most important player on the team behind Tua. McMillon was a redshirt senior who finally got a chance to play. I feel awful for both of them. Now we have to play 2 true freshmen. This might cost us the title.

Alabama's injuries at LB have been insane the last few seasons. Moses and McMillon will miss all of next season. Terrell Lewis has missed the last 2 years. Christian Miller missed all of 2017. Mack Wilson played injured last season. Anfernee Jennings missed the National Title against Georgia. Rashaan Evans has missed a few games. What is going on?

People are definitely overreacting. We'll be fine in the regular season. Texas A&M probably scores the most points against us, but I'll take Bama's offense all day. Auburn has a true freshman QB and a weak OL. LSU has scored 10 points in 3 seasons. I'm not taking their offense seriously lol.

Georgia and the playoffs is where it gets interesting. Christian Harris and Shane Lee (the two new starters) have a lot of talent, but true freshman ILBs have really struggled in Saban's defense. We saw this problem in 2014 where Zeke ran all over us and near the end of 2017. I'm not throwing the season away, but I'm not nearly as confident.

Bro, don't worry about people overracting. You don't think Saban has a plan? Come on man, you're better than that. Agreed with you on A&M, they'll probably drop the most points on you than any other SEC team. I don't think the Mississippi schools have anything to contest you. I like Joe Burrow, the QB at LSU, but I don't think he has enough to overcome 'Bama. I know absolutely nothing on the new Auburn QB, but I always found Auburn to be way overrated. Maybe I'm wrong, that's just how I see it at the moment. Bottom line: I don't see any team overtaking 'Bama in the west this year.

I wouldn't worry about the two new starters until the SEC Championship. No better way for Harris and Lee to get experience all year before facing a (presumably) top 5 Georgia team. I believe, in my honest opinion, that Harris and Lee are better than the LB's in '14. Hey, that's just my opinion.

...

Your team will be fine BSE. Every team goes and deals with injuries each and every year. It's just Saban and company have that talent where they can replace a 3-year starter with a 5* freshman who can replace the production of said 3-year starter.

Jeremy Pruitt should've been fired before the Georgia State game ended. Hindsight is 20/20, but he should've never been hired in the first place. His buyout is just under $6M, but it's worth it.

Losing to Georgia State is inexcusable. Tennessee should've won because of talent alone. Recruiting rankings aren't everything, but 82 of the 93 players Tennessee has signed in the last 4 years were ranked above Georgia State's highest ranked recruit.

Tennessee fans hated Butch Jones (and rightfully so), but he at least brought them back-to-back 9 win seasons. Now they're paying him to intern at Alabama while their new coach making $4M annually lost in the season opener at home to a G5 team who won 2 games last season and had literally never beaten a P5 school before. I don't know how it can get any worse, but we've been saying this for 3 years. Tennessee will find a way.

They signed a guy about 1 hour after he was released to a $15M contract when they had 6M in cap space. After it was announced they added a 2nd year option that somehow brings the cap number down.

Also as just about everyone has reported Antonio Brown was intentionally trying to asshole his way out of Oakland and get to the Patriots (who Brown himself said he wanted to go to before the Oakland trade). Vegas would have even odds on Tampering or worse.

Michigan has been the best mediocre team in CFB the last 4 years. They're not close to a bad team, but aside from 2016, they haven't come close to being a great team. Even in 2016 they lost their two biggest games because that's what Jim Harbaugh Michigan does. The expectations are signing Top 5 classes, beating Ohio State, and making the playoffs. A championship wouldn't be unreasonable. It's looking like none of that will never happen.

Harbaugh is 1-9 vs Top 10 teams, 0-4 vs Ohio State, 2-2 vs Michigan State, and 1-3 in bowl games. If Michigan knew all of this before they hired him, would they have really made him one of the highest paid coaches?

Let's not forget though that his 2016 team was made up of mostly Brady Hoke's players remaining from Hoke's recruitment. Michigan had absolutely zero business losing to Iowa and Ohio State in 2016, none.

Problem is, Harbaugh doesn't have an Andrew Luck (Stanford), or Kaepernick (49ers) to work with. Here's the QB's he's had to work with up to date:

2015: Jake Rudock
2016: Wilton Speight
2017: Speight, John O'Korn
2018: Shea Patterson, Dylan McCaffrey
2019: Patterson

Rudock was alright, Speight was the most consistent, O'Korn was awful and Patterson has been hit or miss. Other than Speight and maybe Patterson, none of them have been world beaters.

Bottom line: I get what you're saying, no doubt. However, who does Michigan get if they let Harbaugh go? You can bet Urban Meyer won't be calling for the Michigan job. Bob Stoops is retired. Who could they get?

Michigan is in a very tough position. Again they'll win 9-10 games every year, but when you can't win a big game, fans aren't going to be satisfied. Getting dominated like they did against Wisconsin definitely doesn't help.

With that said, keeping him is probably the best move. Chris Petersen would be very tempting, but he probably isn't leaving Washington. No one else worth replacing Harbaugh with is leaving their current job.

Great news - Tua should only be out for a couple of weeks, and he'll be back for the LSU game.

As usual people are way overreacting to the game tonight. Tua had a bad INT at the goal-line, but he was perfect on his other passes. On 3 of his 4 drives they scored a TD.

Since when is it a bad thing to "only" beat your rival by 22 with your starting QB missing most of the game? How could Tennessee fans possibly be satisfied with Pruitt this season? They have home losses to Georgia State and BYU and blowout losses to Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Their only wins are against a terrible Mississippi State team and an FCS team. If they're actually satisfied with that, then that just shows how far the program has fallen, and I almost feel bad for them.

Ok no I don't. They made their choice :lmao:

Kirk Cousins is probably the most boring/overrated QB today, Stafford a close second.

The Bears are nowhere near as good as they were last year. I'm not so sure what Trubisky does for them.

Atlanta is a joke. I don't know where things fell apart this season.

Marcus Peters looked real solid for his first appearance on his new team, the Ravens.

Not at all, but FSU shouldn't be losing to Wake Forest. Willie Taggart has destroyed their program.I disagree. I'm not saying Taggart has done a good job, but I'm of the firm belief Jimbo Fisher killed that program. You look at the lack of quality players he left when he bolted...there was a reason he bolted.

Taggart may not be doing a great job, but he was left with nothing. I mean, Fisher left him a team that went 5-7 in Fisher's last year. And it's not like Florida State didn't recruit well (they still are, mostly). It's just that those recruits have not turned into good players.

Fisher had one really good year with a team that was just flat nasty. Beat you up and spit on your mother nasty. Since that national championship, however, Fisher's teams at Florida State just looked soft.

Yes this is a total waste of time and has been done before and I really should be sleeping, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to mock Tennessee.

On November 21, 2016, Tennessee football coach Butch Jones declared his team had won the "championship of life". Sure it was an incredibly dumb thing to say after his team vastly underachieved and he became a meme legend and was ruthlessly mocked by opposing fanbases, but the Volunteers were indeed the champions of life. However what if this championship was defended in football games throughout the season? Who would be the champions today?

Reign - Date Won - Champion (#) - Final Score

1 - 11-21-16 - Tennessee
2 - 11-24-16 - Vanderbilt - 41-24
3 - 12-26-16 - NC State - 41-17
4 - 9-2-17 - South Carolina - 35-28
5 - 9-16-17 - Kentucky - 23-13
6 - 9-23-17 - Florida - 28-27
7 - 10-7-17 - LSU - 17-16
8 - 11-4-17 - Alabama - 24-10
9 - 11-25-17 - Auburn - 26-14
10 - 12-2-17 - Georgia - 28-7
11 - 1-8-18 - Alabama (2) - 26-23
12 - 1-7-19 - Clemson - 44-16

Tennessee fans should be proud! Even though the Vols haven't won a National Championship in 21 years and haven't been relevant this entire decade and had the worst season in history the very next year and SOMEHOW LOST TO GEORGIA STATE (never forget), you will ALWAYS be the first ever champions of life.

That' what happens when you let a GM hire a head coach, do Free Agency and the Draft, and then fire him. The new guy has done what he can but it was too late to fix the glaring issues on the offensive line and at Corner.

The rate they're going the 1st overall pick is not out of the equation. Which means they can trade it and stockpire picks to build a roster.

The only thing going for them is their sick alternate jerseys, which they've only worn once so far.

If you're a Sooners fan, you don't need Auburn to beat Georgia, you need Auburn to beat Alabama. LSU can take care of Georgia.

Oregon and Utah will play each other in the Pac-12 championship game (assuming status quo), so at least one of them will be knocked out there. If the committee has to decide between Big 12 champion Oklahoma and a Pac 12 champion, I would like my odds as a Sooners fan.

I like the underdog Minnesota story, but they are not beating Ohio State in the Big 10 championship game. If Oklahoma wins out and is Big 12 champion, they are in over Minnesota.

Barring an epic collapse, LSU and Ohio State are likely in the playoff, even if they lose in their conference championship games. It is unlikely anyone in the ACC is beating Clemson. So a Sooners fan needs a lot of help, but there is a reasonable path to a playoff beatdown by LSU .

And why was Tua still playing up 35-7? Because it was still the first half.
