Matt Riddle has said before that WWE didn't want to sign him due to his marijuana usage. However according to Dave Meltzer, WWE has now changed their stance and is interested in signing Riddle.

Would you like to see WWE sign Matt Riddle? How big of a star could he be? Would you like to see any other independent wrestlers sign with WWE?

If he shows up, that's fine but if not, that's fine too. WWE has loads of talent, it's just too bad that the main roster doesn't seem to know what to do with about 75% of it.

The taboos surrounding marijuana use in the United States are slowly changing, which is good as marijuana isn't this evil, soul sucking fiend that's out to ensnare the lives of our children. At the same time, if you're someone that's basically buzzed around the clock, then that's a problem, especially if you're profession involves a healthy degree of physical risk and danger. I don't know how extensively Riddle uses but I have trouble buying into this because use of marijuana recreationally is still illegal in the vast majority of the country. If Riddle went out there and wrestled blitzed out of his head and injured someone, WWE could face a shit storm of negative press and rightly so since they knowingly hired a guy that's an admitted pothead.

I haven't seen much of Riddle, but what I have I do like. I like how hard-hitting and explosive he works, all juxtaposed against his laid-back demeanour. Great look, too. He'd be a great fit in NXT. That being said, while WWE's attitude towards approaching him may have changed, there's no way it's happening without strict adherence to the wellness policy. If they want him, they're still going to insist that he quits smoking up.

I do recall Riddle saying that he's also not necessarily interested in WWE, either. He claims to earn six figures a year and is quite content with his lifestyle. Frankly, good for him. If he's comfortable and making a good living, why would he want to give up a part of himself. Then again, maybe his attitude towards pot is a long-game in getting WWE to drop big incentives in their offer to him, and if so, once more, good for him.

Hate to be that guy but, who is Matt Riddle?

Former UFC fighter turned indie-darling. Began his UFC run with a 4 fight win streak before being fired for testing positive for the reefer.

So there might be something to this. Riddle has dropped dates with PWG and WWN.

Of course, should he show up on NXT, that will never be his debut.

Tyler Bate was UK champion from January until May 2017, and competed in the May TakeOver against Pete Dunne, so it's either Orlando or San Antonio.

The rumors could be true if a graphic recently posted by CZW announcing an upcoming show for tomorrow night is accurate. The graphic featured Riddle with the caption: "Don't miss one of Matt Riddle's final indy appearances before going to WWE!" The graphic was taken down and replaced with an identical one, identical with the exception that there was no mention of Riddle going to WWE. Even Uncle Dave is saying that Riddle is NXT bound even though he's also received offers from New Japan.

I dunno, if Riddle is as big a stoner as he's said to be then I just don't expect him to last long in WWE, especially if it affects his ability. I mean, I obviously can't say one way or the other as I'm not hugely familiar with his work or how much he partakes of the herb; it's just something of a radical change from WWE's usual hiring policy. I figured that once it was known that Riddle was allegedly toked that he'd automatically be passed over.

Riddle has signed a long-term contract with WWE. He's also going to be in the crowd at Takeover: Brooklyn.

I hope things work out for him. He's clearly talented and could be a star on the main roster, if booked right.
