Things are all over the place now as we are on the road to….well probably this same building actually, assuming Takeover still goes down. I’m not sure what to expect from that, especially with Wrestlemania now taking place on Saturday night as well. Maybe they have something special planned, but we might be in for some big television shows in the near future. Let’s get to it.

We’re back to a little more normal this time around with NXT having regular matches instead of a mini documentary show like last week. Since there was no Takeover: Tampa Bay, those matches and stories will have to be addressed and HHH will be here tonight to start that process. Let’s get to it.

If they don't call these next 2 weeks of NXT TV "NXT Takeover: Coronavirus" or NXT Takeover: COVID-19" then they have made a massive error in judgement.

It’s a taped show this week and likely will be for a good while to come. This time around we are going to have a rather stacked card, capped off by the triple threat match for the North American Title. Other than that though, all roads lead to next week with the final showdown between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. Let’s get to it.

We’re in the marathon taping session now and this time around we have a big double main event. This week’s show will feature the six woman ladder match to crown a new #1 contender, but the real big match is the final showdown between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano in a battle years in the making. Let’s get to it.

After today’s record setting number of releases, it might be nice to have things get back to normal, meaning we’re in an empty arena with a different set of commentators. Last week saw Johnny Gargano win the final battle against Tommaso Ciampa, but the question now is what happens with Killer Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux, who were watching at the end of last week’s show. Let’s get to it.

We’re at an interesting point here as they are having to come up with some more stories without a full crew. It certainly seems that Adam Cole is gone for the time being, meaning we need to find a way to fill time until Velveteen Dream can challenge him. Dream has something to do tonight though, as he faces Finn Balor. Let’s get to it.

It’s a packed show this week as we have two title matches. Charlotte defends her Women’s Title against Io Shirai and Velveteen Dream gets his long awaited shot at the NXT Title. It’s another title week this time around with the Tag Team Titles on the line as Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle defend against Imperium. It’s the go home show for Takeover and that means we have another stacked card. The big story is building tot he NXT Title match but you never know how that might go. NXT has a good history with making you want to see the major shows, but things have been difference since they went to two hours. Hopefully they can make it work well here all over again. We’re done with Takeover: In Your House and the only major change was Io Shirai winning the Women’s Title. Other than that, Adam Cole is still NXT Champion and needs a new challenger. Tonight he faces Dexter Lumis in a match that has me worried. Finn Balor and Keith Lee would seem to be the next big challengers so let’s get to it.

It’s title night as Keith Lee is defending the North American Title against Johnny Gargano and Finn Balor in a triple threat match. That’s big enough, but the bigger story is that the winner will be facing Adam Cole for the NXT Title in a title vs. title match in two weeks. And yes, that is the same night as the second week of AEW Fyter Fest. Let’s get to it.

We’re bringing back the Great American Bash over the next two weeks and that could be an interesting situation. Both AEW and NXT delivered great shows last night in my eyes. I think they were well matched overall in terms of quality though I just tend to be invested in NXT more as NXT pretty much made me fall in love with wrestling again.

The low point of last night's show was the mix tag match but when it was still solid and they didn't do anything foolish by putting Rhea Ripley as part of a comedy act. She's got too much star potential for that, way too much. Robert Stone played his part well and this sort of thing is the only way I can invest to any degree whatsoever in intergender wrestling.

I may be wrong but I have a feeling they're just taking things slow with Dexter Lumis. He continues to get a good deal of interest from fans because he's different. The whole bit where he's silently staring that creepy, 1,000 yard, psychotic stare is working right now so I think they should just keep milking it while they can. Eventually, he's going to have to say something, to evolve a little bit and that's okay as long as they keep up the sheer creepiness the guy can generate.

Timothy Thatcher will never be anything on Raw or SmackDown, if he's ever brought to the main roster, unless they were to put him in a tag team with Cesaro. Personally, I love watching Thatcher do his thing and seeing matches like we've seen him have with Lorcan and Riddle are great treats. Don't do them TOO often and they'll continue to feel that way. But yeah, I could genuinely see him and Cesaro as a team as both have that throwback label attached to them.

Tegan Nox I'm sort of on the fence about. NXT is going with the tried and true formula of a scrappy, hard working, determined babyface with her with a little aspect of the girl next door bit going for her. I don't find it all that interesting but it does the job. Mia Yim is hit and miss for me. Some weeks, she's fresh, crisp and full of fire and then some weeks, she just doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders. For instance, when she's doing planchas and suicide dives, it'd help out a lot if she actually moved with some speed because she moved so slow that it makes the moves look supremely fake looking. If she doesn't feel comfy doing those sorts of moves while moving at a good rate of speed, maybe simply shouldn't do them. Candice LeRae is cute as a button and she's doing well in her heel persona. I also like the notion of something between Johnny Gargano and Isaiah "Serve" Scott as I can already picture some fun matches.

Io Shirai and Sasha had a really good showcase bout last night. Asuka appearing was a nice little treat, given her history and friendship with Shirai, plus it gives Sasha some protection in the loss considering she's facing Asuka at ER for the Raw Women's Championship. This match made me wish for these two being in NXT with a good long build up for a 25 or so minute match to be held at a TakeOver event.

For me, NXT continues to show that the TakeOver events are the overall best 2.5 hours of pro wrestling in pro wrestling and have been for years now.

As continues to be the case, there wasn't anything remotely bad on last night's TakeOver. It didn't have a particularly big feel about it and I think one reason for this is simply due to the lack of the audience. That's going to pull down a show to some degree no matter what, there's no way to get around it.

The kickoff show featured a solid triple threat match to determine the #1 contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championship. Generally speaking, if there's ever been anything in NXT that's weaker than anything else, and I use the term rather loosely, it's been its tag team scene. Breezango getting a win here was fine and, truth be told, i wouldn't mind seeing them win the gold. Both guys have busted their asses in WWE for years, they're a solid and entertaining tag team so winning the gold wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The action was fun, it didn't overstay its welcome and achieved what it needed to. ***

Finn Balor vs. Timothy Thatcher started off the main TakeOver card and it was a fun, physical, hard hitting outing. I know that Thatcher's style isn't for everyone but I personally like it because the guy's a genuine technical whiz. It's nice to see someone who can be an actual "tough guy", someone who is a "tough guy" as he has all this knowledge and ability with using moves that can legitimately hurt someone. You don't have to suspend disbelief with this guy and it makes him stand out. He's not someone that I see Vince embracing on the "main roster" but I don't mind the whole throwback aspect of the guy. It was a good mix of styles with Balor doing his thing, which is always crisp. I would've preferred Thatcher score the win but, at the same time, he's someone that they're taking their time with like Lumis and fans become more and more into him as time goes by. ***1/2

The NXT North American Championship Ladder Match was what you'd expect. The first 5 minutes or so were a little rough as everyone had to find their pace but once they did, everything fell into place. NXT gives its wrestlers opportunities to shine in these sorts of matches, nobody here felt like they were just being used as a body to fill up a space, and there was a legit "it's anybody's match to win" feeling here for me. This is one of those matches that would've been especially enhanced in front of a hot crowd of about 10,000 or so. All the wrestlers worked hard and delivered some fun spots, though Dream's spot from the top of the ladder out through a table was really sweet looking. The kid's never been afraid to take a bump, gotta give him that. The end comes with Damien Priest and Johnny Gargano battling atop the ladder with each holding one end of the belt before Priest eventually knocks Johnny off and wins. Priest was probably the overall favorite to come out the winner but any one of them would've worked. Bronson Reed is probably not ready but he continues to progress. ****

Adam Cole vs. Pat McAfee was exactly what it needed to be: a fun match that told a good story featuring some good action. I think we were all expecting McAfee to be pretty solid but I thought he was great here. He played his role perfectly and you can tell that he's someone that's gotten in some training over the years to do as well as he did. He's green, sure but he knew what he was doing and had enough knowledge so that Cole could easily navigate him through the match. McAfee is an annoying fucker of a heel and I wanted to see this "outsider" get his ass kicked by a pro wrestler. I also got the sense that McAfee had a ton of fun here; he's a hardcore wrestling fan and has been most of his life so this is probably something that's been on his bucket list. If he wants to be in WWE as a wrestler at some point, he could potentially go far. Personally, I think he'd be even better as someone's mouthpiece because the guy has the gift of gab. Cole coming out with the win was exactly the right thing to do here, otherwise it would've simply made NXT look bad. I mean, Cole's NXT Championship run of 400+ days only ended within the past month and there's no way to have him lose a match, even if there'd been gobs of interference, from a guy literally having his very first match. ***3/4

Io Shirai vs. Dakota Kai for the NXT Women's Championship was the biggest surprise of the night. Dakota Kai has always been sort of hit and miss for me, usually significantly more hit than miss but not someone who can consistently put it together each and every match. This, in my eyes, was easily her best match in NXT and both women absolutely shined here. Just a great wrestling match in which both women looked like stars. The problem with this bout is that Kai didn't really feel like a threat going in but she certainly looked it during the match and coming out of it. I'm wondering if that's by design in that Kai will continue to look awesome and having upped her game in order for her to eventually win the strap. Of course, it's pretty damn difficult to look bad in a match with Io Shirai as baby girl damn sure knows what she's doing. Shirai retaining is the right call and makes me wonder if we might see her with Gonzalez eventually, which would suit me as Raquel Gonzalez has been impressive in her role and it could make for a really good David vs. Goliath type of situation. ****1/4

Keith Lee vs. Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship was the sort of physical, hard hitting bout I expected. They didn't go full on hoss fight throughout the whole 22 minutes or so, which is fine as this was also Kross' first long match in NXT so we got to see more of what he brings to the table. When it's all said and done, both guys beat the crap out of each other and delivered some impressive moves. They didn't go nuts with the finishers, meaning they didn't hit their finishers 3 or 4 times during the match only for each of them to kick out, which is refreshing. The match was supposed to feel like a couple of beasts, two alphas going at it to see who wanted it most and I thought the match delivered that without, again, going nuts and making them look too alpha. Karrion Kross picks up the clean with with a Super Saito Suplex and is the new NXT Champion. I think Kross had to win here as he's just been built up as such a monstrous force, and he's been delivering quite well, and this makes me wonder if Keith Lee is soon to be heading for the "main roster." It's difficult to tell right now as the effects of the pandemic have caused so much of what was once planned to be pushed back or scrapped altogether. ****

So yeah, another great TakeOver. Was it among the all time classics? Nah but, as I said earlier, NXT TakeOver is the most consistent, high quality 2.5 hours of professional wrestling in professional wrestling, in my opinion, and TakeOver: XXX showed why. While the hype for this show wasn't exactly red hot, the show itself more than delivered. When your "weakest" match on the card is a match that was good and would be right at home anywhere else, then you know you've put on a strong show. Overall, I give the show an A-.

A Fatal 4 Way 60 Minute Iron Man Match? Hot damn a good idea for something different. I'm intrigued as to how that'll play out.

Not really. It?s their developmental brand. If they?re really stars, they belong on the main roster.

I'm betting WWE is more concerned with hurting AEW than building stars, and losing Cole, Gargano, Ciampa, and Balor would kill NXT. They're still several indy wrestlers they could sign but not nearly as many as 4-5 years ago.

You can bet all you want. Balor belongs in NXT because he was floundering on the main roster. His mic skills were average. And the others I have no opinion on because these last 2 weeks are my first experience with NXT.

No it's not anymore. It's a 3rd brand. Sure new people will go there but it is not a developmental brand.

Mauro Ranello is gone. He and WWE "mutually and amicably agreed to part ways" (https://www.wwe.com/article/mauro-ranallo-wwe-mutally-amicably-part-ways)

Sad that he is gone, but it is for the best for all parties probably, and hopefully everything is ok with him and his health.

That being said, I am guessing Vic Joseph is gonna replace him as the play-by-play man, which is good as Vic is pretty good, but he is also a more calming presence and Mauro, while awesome, can be a bit overwhelming.

It’s Super Tuesday and they have a big time main event this time around. Tonight it’s a four way sixty minute Iron Man match for the vacant NXT Title. Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole and Finn Balor are facing off for the title and that could make for a pretty major moment. Let’s get to it.

The screwy finish was just fine with me as it didn't take away from the match. Throughout the match, all four guys were basically painted as equals and that was the story that was consistently told. Balor scored a the first fall, then Gargano scored the 2nd by pinning Balor, then Cole scored the 3rd by pinning Gargano and Ciampa finally scored the 4th by pinning Cole. Throughout the match, it felt like anyone's game and I really dug it.

A big reason I didn't mind the finish was because we didn't get what I thought might happen: the rest of the Undisputed Era running interference for Cole. I'm really, really glad that didn't happen as I felt it would've taken away from the match itself, and it's something we've seen a little too much of at times past. Balor scoring another fall for himself and Cole tying it up with just a second or so left worked well and we get what will be a strong match between them next Tuesday. Again, I hope they don't bring out the UE to try to help Cole as the story will be to see which of the two, probably the two who're considered the greatest NXT Champions, really is "the greatest" NXT Champion.

He's been facing heels. He's gone up against Priest (before his turn) and Thatcher at the last two Takeovers. And there was the whole whodunnit angle after he was attacked in the back if we want to be specific about the actual time frame.

"On 22 April 2020 episode of NXT, Balor was scheduled to have a match against the Velveteen Dream, but Balor was knocked out by an unknown attacker before he could leave his dressing room. Two weeks later, Balor concluded that there was a "snake hiding in the long grass back there" and that whoever attacked him wanted a push. Balor assured the audience that it won't be a push, but rather a squash. Later that night he got in an altercation with Cameron Grimes which resulted in a match between the two the next week. During the match the next week, Damian Priest cost Balor the match by using a nightstick behind the referee's back. Priest then revealed that he was the one who knocked out Balor three weeks prior, thus turning Balor face once again."

I get the argument that he acts heelish. But if we're using that logic, Stone Cold and The Rock were heels too.

It’s time for the sequel to last week’s four way Iron Man match with Finn Balor vs. Adam Cole for the NXT Title. This could be a classic if they’re given the time and actually have a finish instead of setting up something for Clash Of Champions. I've not given a shit about NXT in a long time to be honest. The people worth seeing get called up, sans for Ciampa, Gargano and the Undisputed Era (who I think will get called up soon anyhow). The women's division especially seems thin (although a lot of that comes from some callups I think were too early).

They really should just combine NXT UK with the regular NXT for the benefit of both.

the NXT Womens division is badass, and has been for a while. May be the deepest division in all of WWE.

NXT Men can use a bit of a shuffle, mainly by taking a few RAW/Smackdown people, and sending lower tier guys in their stead. But even then Balor, Kross, Ciampa, Cole, O'Reilly, Dunne is a really solid main event scene, especially when you realize the Womens division is so damn strong that they deserve the Main Event spot more often than not.

Does NXT even have any women's tag teams? Raquel and Dakota is all I can think of.
Here's the list

Candice LeRae/Indi Hartwell
Dakota Kai/Raquel Gonzalez
Jessamyn Duke/Marina Shafir
Kacy Katanzaro/Kayden Carter

They are all currently in an established team together. And then much like a bunch of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics you include a few singles stars that join forces to win the prestigious tournament. People like:

Shotzi Blackheart/Ember Moon
Io Shirai/Rhea Ripley

They each have teamed together before. Hell Io/Rhea can follow the Samoa Joe/Finn Balor feud from way back at Dusty 1, where you win the tournament then one turns on the other and it morphs into a singles feud.

That's 6 teams right there.

The ladies left off the list that are on the NXT roster:
Aliyah
Chelsea Green (she's listed on WWE.com's NXT roster still, currently injured)
Mercedez Martinez
Tegan Nox (currently injured)
Toni Storm
Vanessa Borne
Xia Li.

This list completely ignores NXTUK. Add the 10 or so women on that roster to the bottom list.

And if they really want to, they can always have Regal reach out to WWE management to get 1 team from RAW and 1 from Smackdown (or from outside WWE), but they aren't really needed.

There were some genuine surprise endings in some of the Dusty Cup tag matches and that's not a bad thing. We don't often get the feeling that it's "anybody's game" when it comes to tournaments in WWE but the Dusty Cup this year does come off more like it's "anybody's game" this year than ever before. I didn't expect the Way or Imperium to be out of the tourney in the first round, and both were strong matches. Using the tag bout to further the Kushida vs. Gargano singles feud and match, that has to be upcoming, was the priority and I got no problem with that. As I alluded to, we got a good match out of it and the primary focus of the whole thing, Kushida vs. Gargano, gets moved along in a big way.

Lucha House Party is a fun team to watch, we just simply don't get to see much of what they can do as both these guys are typically used as jobbers on the "main roster." They made the clash of styles between Imperium and LHP work well and one of the favorites is out of the tourney in the first round.

Team Ninja going over Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez wasn't something I expected either. While not as good as the men's tag bouts, it was solid and the finisher Kacy hit was insane. Io Shirai injecting herself to take Martinez out made sense, so there's probably your NXT Women's Championship match for TakeOver.

The Fight Pit was a lot of fun and I also really like that NXT isn't running the match into the ground. It's become something of a signature for Thatcher and it works. Basically, get two guys who don't mind working stiff and just have them beat the snot out of each other. I'd have really loved to have seen this go to the 20 minute mark but I get it, it's TV and time has to be managed properly and if there's anything the "main roster", Raw especially, can learn from NXT, it's how to use your time to get the most out of your product.

The big story around here continues to be the complete implosion of the Undisputed Era after Adam Cole turned on the team and left them laying. Finn Balor is involved as well and that could make for some interesting situations. On top of that, the Women’s Tag Team Titles are on the line tonight as Shayna Baszler/Nia Jax are defending against Dakota Kai/Raquel Gonzalez. Let’s get to it.

This is one of the most stacked shows that NXT has had in a long time, with a pair of title matches to cap off the show. We’re on the road to Takeover and this time around that means we have twice the usual amount of matches to set up. The end of last week’s show set up a pair of matches for Takeover and I’m curious to see what else they have for the show. Throw in a few more title matches to be set up and we could be in for a nice pair of shows. Let’s get to it.

Danny Burch/Oney Lorcan had to vacate the championships due to Burch's injury. This sucks for him as they were on a roll. I don't know why they didn't just have his stablemate Pete Dunne sub for him and have Oney eat a pin and lose the titles, but this works fine too.

I'd assume MSK and Grizzled Young Veterans will wrestle for the Championship at Takeover: Stand and Deliver. MAYBE they do a 4 team match with Legado Del Fantasma and Breezango (and ladders). But with GYV and MSK embroiled in a feud already and both being the top teams right now, it makes the most sense to throw the titles in that feud. Hell MSK was already the #1 contenders anyway. Hell, if they go the multi-team route throw Lorcan/Dunne in the match as well.

Each and every state has their own rules.

Florida (where the PC is) has fully opened all businesses and ended most regulations.

Texas has ended mask mandates and fully opened.

In these instances individual businesses can determine what they want in terms of masks, occupancy, etc.

Also, they were filming a TV segment (even though it looked like a security camera footage, it was a planned TV segment), so they were likely not wearing masks because it looks better for TV.

It’s the go home show for Takeover and that means we should be in for one of NXT’s specialties. They know how to hype up a show rather well and they can do it in a hurry, which is what they have to do here. So the Fatal 4-Way match that was to determine a #1 Contender to Samoa Joe's NXT Championship is now an NXT Championship match.

I was expecting LA Knight to win as Ciampa and Dunne are in the War Games feud, and I don't know if O'Reilly/Joe was a plan for the title. However now I think O'Reilly is gonna win.

What's everyone else's prediction for the title match tonight?

Also, now that Balor is no longer on NXT again I'd say we need a thread title change. I'd say one that takes us TO THE MOON.

It’s time to focus on the women’s division as we have several women’s matches taking place this week. This includes a pair of title matches, plus a grudge match. That’s the easy part though. The fun part is finding out how many new people can be brought in with little to no explanation. Let’s get to it.

Mandy Rose has been really great for NXT. Her reign has been good.

I do wonder who will be the one to end it. Roxanne Perez has that contract, but Cora Jade was being build up and Nikkita Lyons is a star in the making.

I'm thinking it'll be Lyons, and I'd be intrigued with Lyons beating Mandy only for Roxanne to cash in her title match immediately after, turning in the process.

It?s the go home show for Vengeance Day and that means it is time for the hard sell, which is one of the things NXT tends to do best. In addition to the build towards the show, we also have the long awaited Creed Brothers vs. Indus Sher match, which has been postponed at least once before. Let?s get to it.

NXT is back on the road for the first time since Stand & Deliver all the way back in the spring. That is something that could do a lot of good for NXT and the card is pretty stacked as well. We have a bunch of title matches here, capped off by Bron Breakker defending the NXT Title against Grayson Waller inside a cage. Let’s get to it.

We’re done with Vengeance Day and just shy of two months away from Stand & Deliver. It looks like we have a title match set up, as Carmelo Hayes stared down Bron Breakker, who retained the NXT Title in the main event. That should give us a clear path to Los Angeles so let’s get to it.

It’s Valentine’s Day and that is not likely to mean much of anything here. We are about a month and a half away from Stand & Deliver and Carmelo Hayes is looking like a strong option to go after Bron Breakker’s NXT Title. Other than that, NXT has some work to do so let’s get to it.
