^ was going to ask you about the SEC coaches who got fired.
Barry Odom was pretty bad. Very unfortunate that Gary Pinkel had to retire.
No one really expected Matt Luke to be good. He was hired to deal with the sanctions and bridge the gap between Hugh Freeze and the next coach.
Chad Morris at Arkansas is one of the worst head coaching runs of all time. No hyperbole.
Definitely. Auburn fans expectations are too high. Gus has 3 wins over Saban, a National Championship appearance, and 2 NY6 bowl appearances.
Auburn could've easily been 7-5 or 6-6 this season. Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M is a brutal schedule.
HE'S 0-2 in NY6 games, one to my Sooners in '17, and the other to UCF in '18.
I'm 50/50 on whether he's solidified himself as a "good coach". He has beaten 'Bama 3 times so there's that.
A for the schedule, Auburn did have a very difficult schedule this season, but nowhere near as difficult as South Carolina or Texas A&M.
You can't beat Saban 3 times and not be considered good. Gus is a little inconsistent, but that's going to happen in the SEC West and playing Georgia from the East every year.
I haven't looked it up, but I'd be shocked if Auburn didn't have one of the 5 hardest schedules in college football. Taking away the result of their game against Auburn, they've played 10-1 Oregon, 11-0 LSU, 9-2 Florida, 10-1 Georgia, and 10-1 Alabama. How much more difficult can it get?
Meh, Gary Pinkel had run his course too. Don't get me wrong, Pinkel was a great coach for Mizzou and he brought us some good teams and great moments, but the signs were there the program was starting to falter. Maybe he could have righted the ship if he had been completely healthy, but Pinkel stepped down at the right time.
But, yeah, Odom was terrible and should have been fired after last year's bowl game when he nearly single-handedly cost Mizzou the game with terrible coaching. I never was a huge fan of his hire.
Yeah, it really is fascinating how Ole Miss couldn't win when they weren't openly cheating...No one really expected Matt Luke to be good. He was hired to deal with the sanctions and bridge the gap between Hugh Freeze and the next coach.
Chad Morris at Arkansas is one of the worst head coaching runs of all time. No hyperbole.
Also, Arkansas hasn't been relevant since Bobby Petrino fell of a motorcycle. Obviously Morris wasn't the answer, but I'm guessing they have bigger problems in the system than just the head coach.
Probably, but it shouldn't.
If you think a coach isn't the right person to get the job done, one win shouldn't change your mind. Either he's good enough or he's not and basing that decision around one home game is silly. For what it is worth, I don't think Auburn will do better than Mahlzan, but if they do, then one game shouldn't change their mind.
I was with you until the end. A&M has no business being considered with those other teams. Also, I think Florida is/was overrated this season. Take away the home game against Auburn after a de facto bye week and what are you left with? A bunch of wins against nobodies.
Dang. The committee does not like 'Bama. Most sites I've seen have Bama at the Citrus Bowl. Ouch. 'Bama hasn't played outside of a BCS/NY6/CFP game since the 2010-11 season.
