Not at all. But Pitch Black is a really good film that's had its reputation tarnished by shit sequels.

I actually like the sequels. But I can understand why people don't. Chronicles Of Riddick was way to different to Pitch Black and felt like a completely different movie. Riddick felt to much of a rehash of Pitch Black. The animated one was ok. So I get it. At least with Aliens in comparison to Alien it felt connected. Instead of one Alien there was many. Instead of space truckers it was space marines. There was still a link. Even as a kid I thought Chronicles Of Riddick was way to different to Pitch Black but I still like it.

I wouldn't put it on the same tier as Alien - I'm not sure I'd put anything on the same tier as Alien - but Pitch Black is a terrific film, yes.

    1. First Cow ★★★
    2. A Quiet Place Part II ★★
    3. Mortal Kombat ★★

Close the cinemas again, reopen them when's there's something good on.

I've got tickets to In The Heights showing on a Peckham rooftop, such is my ambition for a post-spinal surgery life.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is currently in contention for film of the year. That's what we're dealing with.

Bear in mind the productions released are the ones that started production off the heels of the first lockdown easing last year. I expect even fewer movies to be in contention of high-class movies of the year calibre this year in particular.

Look, I appreciate it was shot during an actual pandemic and on a shoestring budget, etc. etc. but future historians will be amazed that Ben Wheatley made Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England and then In The Earth.

Ben Wheatley would be better off not banging stuff out over a couple of weeks each summer. Even I said no to his pandemic movie.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing your take on F9: The Fast Saga when the time comes. Just saw it last night and it is exactly what you'd think it would be.

F&F films are like Takeover events. I can enjoy them when they're on but I can't differentiate between them when they're finished.

My sincere opinion is that Fast Five is below perhaps only Fury Road - off the top of my head - in terms of twenty-first century action classics. The rest are varying degrees of enjoyable garbage. But, in order of importance, 9 has 1) John Cena, 2) magnets and 3) Justin Lin, so I'm optimistic this'll be on the upper end.
