4 stars for Vice? Even I don't think I'll see that.

Vice is much better than The Big Short.

Three stars for Glass, now that's audacious.

    1. The Favourite ★★★★★
    2. One Cut of the Dead ★★★★★
    3. Vice ★★★★
    4. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ★★★
    5. Alita: Battle Angel ★★
    6. Dragon Ball Super: Broly ★

How to Train Your Dragon might have been more touching had there not been a small girl screaming in French next to me for the last twenty minutes. An odd choice by the filmmakers.

Alita... I don't even know. Some of the design stuff was pretty cool.

Here in the states, movies like Alita just don't connect. The first time I saw the trailer, I had doubts and my doubts became a certainty when I did a little research and saw that it was based on a Japanese Manga. I haven't seen it, I just don't have high hopes for it. It's one of these futuristic movies in which the slick CGI effects are the real stars while details like interesting characters and a sensible plot are hardly anywhere to be found. I'm sure the effects and fight scenes will be cool, but that'll probably be the highlight. I will say that I'm surprised that critics haven't completely gutted it as it's got a 61% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I figured it'd be much lower.

I'm also surprised there hasn't been some sort of backlash regarding the lack of Asians in the movie. Lots of Caucasians and Hispanics in the cast, but very few Asians.
