Monday Night Raw

We’re still in Orlando and that seems to be because Vince McMahon is (possibly rightly) scared of the television networks and that means everything is going to be live going forward. I’m not sure what to expect this week but we’re on the road to Money in the Bank because that show will work in the Performance Center. Let’s get to it.

An Essentially Bad Show

I actually don't mind Nia to be honest.

Nia is fine, but I hated to see Kairi get squashed. WWE wastes so much talent.

I thought there were some solid happenings on Raw last night.

I always enjoy Money in the Bank if, for nothing else, than just the chaos of the MITB ladder matches themselves. That's not to say there aren't problems with the MITB matches, the biggest one, by far and away in my opinion, is that WWE often packs the matches with wrestlers that you know have zero change due to WWE doing little to nothing with them for much of the rest of the year. Either that or there are wrestlers in the match that are so lousy you can't help but roll your eyes and ask "Why?". Nia Jax is a perfect example: bitch has been out for a full year but comes back and her second match qualifies her to be part of MITB. Plus, she just flat out sucks the air out of the room, whether it's an empty PC or an arena of 15,000 people. Her family, especially the Rock, is why she's in WWE and why she'll always be a significant factor in WWE. This year, you can almost sense that it'll either be Shayna Baszler who wins the contract or Sasha Banks. Things are looking a little more wide open for the men's bout as three qualifying matches were announced for next week's episode: Rey Mysterio vs. Murphy, Aleister Black vs. Austin Theory and Apollo Crews vs. MVP. The first two bouts could be great, I feel Mysterio should put over Murphy but there's little chance of that, and Theory could put on another match where he looks great but comes up short which, I think, will also happen with Murphy. As to Crews vs. MVP, might as well just give Crews a bye as to put him up against this over the hill, overrated never-was.

I like the stable Zelina Vega has though I think they're pushing Theory to the "main roster" a bit too soon. He's extremely young, has a ton of potential and could be a significant player in WWE. However, the kid already has the same problems that a number of others brought up from NXT have: he's not being given, nor is he going to be given, much of an opportunity to show personality or charisma to connect with fans via the mic. As a result, people won't embrace him as much as Vince hopes/wants them to and he'll wind up in the same boat as Cedric Alexander and Ricochet. Of course, even if Theory gets some mic time, it's still hit or miss given that Vince is gonna write out everything the poor kid can say.

Wrestling action on last night's show was pretty solid overall though I most definitely would have preferred some stuff be cut so that other things could have more time. For instance, I don't give a shit about Lashley & Lana or their domestic issues and I didn't need to see Lashley squash No Way Jose. I didn't think it was especially necessary for Angel Garza to squash Tehuti...whatever the hell his name is. Also, quite honestly, I don't think we needed Charlotte Flair or Becky Lynch to come out and give promos where they basically say the same thing as the week before: Charlotte: "Bow down to your Queen. WOOOOOOOOO!" Becky: "You know what it'll be like when The Man comes around." Personally, I'd have almost rather seen a night of mostly straight matches rather than unnecessary squashes and repetitive promos.

I thought last night's show was about a C+. It kept me entertained enough all in all and, like most episodes of Raw or SmackDown, there are areas that need improving and it's glaringly obvious yet you know little or nothing will be done to address those issues.
