What is TEW 2020?
TEW 2020 is a wrestling booking simulator created by Grey Dog Software and released in 2020. Whilst the game itself has a pre-existing universe, the primary appeal of these games is fan-made mods that allows for real wrestlers, promotions and scenarios to book at practically any point in time, with a huge amount of variables, such as broadcast deals, worker morale and health, relationships with other promotions, finance and much, much more. This save will mostly be based on fantasy booking, so more mundane aspects will be disabled to ensure a more streamlined experience based on creating dream matches and feuds.
What is War Of The Immortals:
War Of The Immortals is a very unique mod that adds most every well-known wrestler since the days of Ed "Strangler" Lewis up until the present, primarily in their primes (so for example, Vader will be 33 years old whilst John Cena is 30). This allows for very unique fantasy booking options that would only be possible in other video games. The other major change is that major wrestling companies such as WWE, WCW, TNA and ECW are divided into new, unique companies contesting against one another based on era. So WWE has no less than 6 companies operating independently with their own goals: the WWWF, the WWF Classic, WWF New Generation, WWF Attitude, World Wrestling Entertainment (Ruthless Aggression era, which we are playing) and WWE Universe. Most every major promotion to have existed will be available to play in the mod, and as aforementioned, different generations of product will compete with one another as separate entities.
Can you sign anyone you want?
Almost. Some key personnel for certain companies are signed to exclusive written contracts, and are thus impossible to claim without talent trading or a month before their written contract expires. For example, Steve Austin is signed to an exclusive contract for WWF Attitude, and cannot be used by any other company. Similarly, WCW/NWO has Goldberg, who cannot be used by anyone else. Every company has a starting roster, with some major players signed to exclusive written contracts, and the others on a handshake agreement, allowing them to take independent bookings or be signed elsewhere to an exclusive deal.
THE STORY SO FAR
The Vanguard
Perhaps a greater story than even the WWE Title picture is the formation of the Vanguard. Formed by Nick Bockwinkel, Harley Race and leader "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, their goal is to keep a new generation of talent from usurping the traditions of wrestling they have worked tirelessly to maintain. In particular, the group have been at war with firebrand and rising star CM Punk, who recruited AJ Styles and Chris Benoit to his cause to combat the conservative, elitist views of the Vanguard. At No Way Out, Rick Rude pledged his allegiance to the Vanguard, and Stan Hansen quickly followed suit in an enforcer role. Punk and his resistance fighters persuaded Batista to join their cause and fought Piper, Race, Bockwinkel and Rude in a brutal War Games match at Wrestlemania, where the stipulation held the losing faction should dissolve and no longer impede the other's progress. Each team gave everything they could and even more, but it was ultimately Piper who secured the win for his team, an exhausted CM Punk passing out to Piper's sleeper hold. In conjunction with Stan Hansen earning a #1 contendership opportunity for the TV title at the next Smackdown in a massive battle royale at Wrestlemania, there appears to be no limit to the Vanguard's success. What's exactly next for The Vanguard is unknown, but leader Roddy Piper has promised huge developments going forward.
The WWE Title
WWE's first event, the Royal Rumble, saw Brock Lesnar defeat John Cena in a brutal no disqualification match to claim the vacant WWE Championship. At the same event, Randy Orton won the colossal 60-man Royal Rumble match, last eliminating CM Punk. John Cena's rematch clause saw him successfully slay The Next Big Thing in an equally turbulent street fight, before being laid out by an increasingly savage Randy Orton. With both Orton and Lesnar holding strong claims to the title, Smackdown general manager Theodore Long and WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon signed in a triple threat match at Wrestlemania, in which despite a makeshift alliance between Lesnar and Orton being created, soon fell apart late into the match, allowing Cena to claim a convincing win. The Cenation leader enjoyed an emotional celebration in front of his home Massachusetts crowd for his victory in the Wrestlemania main event, but his reign is only just beginning and exciting challenges and opportunities await him going forward.
The Tag Team Titles
Ever since defeating the Dudley Boyz at the Royal Rumble, the Road Warriors have seemed unstoppable, vanquishing all competition. Defeating the Hardyz at No Way Out and then the winners of a 16-team tournament The New Age Outlaws at Wrestlemania, the Road Warriors seem set to lord over a highly competitive tag division for a long time. Can anyone slow down, let alone stop the Road Warriors?
The Intercontinental Title
Jake Roberts and Rob Van Dam entered an intense, psychological feud for the Intercontinental title, with Roberts sneaking a victory at the Royal Rumble, but RVD winning the title at No Way Out. In a non-title match for Money In The Bank qualification however, the monster Vader interrupted and staked his claim for the IC Title, leaving Van Dam beaten and practically broken after a ruthless assault. Van Dam gave it his all at Wrestlemania, but it wasn't quite enough to stop The Mastodon, who claimed the title in dominant fashion. Overcoming the undefeated Vader will be a Herculean task for any superstar, with impressive victories over the likes of Batista to his name already, but anything is possible in the WWE.
The Television Title
The inaugural television champion, Ken Shamrock, has so far yet to be dethroned since winning the title at the Royal Rumble against Dan Severn, with Shamrock successfully defending the title every Smackdown since up until Wrestlemania. Severn patiently waited until Wrestlemania to cash in his rematch clause, allowing Shamrock to wear himself down in perpetual defences in high-level contest against the likes of Edge, Booker T and Terry Funk, among others. In an unsanctioned MMA fight for the championship at Wrestlemania, Shamrock earned a decisive, dramatic knockout in the final round against his bitter rival. With Stan Hansen of The Vanguard as his upcoming opponent for the post-Wrestlemania edition of Smackdown, things don't seem to be getting easier for Shamrock, but if there's anyone who you can never count out, it's the World's Most Dangerous Man.
The X-Divsion Title
A Ultimate X gauntlet at the Royal Rumble saw Syxx sneak a victory to claim the vacant title. At No Way Out, Syxx narrowly escaped with the title against Mistico and Jushin Thunder Liger, forming a makeshift alliance with Bryan Danielson to ensure his grasp on the title. But despite this makeshift alliance, Syxx couldn't hold on to the title for much longer, as Jushin Liger won a spectacular Ultimate X match for the championship, also involving Bryan Danielson, Mistico, "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal and Tajiri.
The Women's Title
Lita and Trish Stratus tore the house down at the Royal Rumble, but it was ultimately Lita who claimed the victory and the women's championship. A debuting Mickie James was savagely assaulted by Lita after picking up a surprise victory, inspiring Trish to save James from any further harm. Mickie thanked Stratus by costing her a rematch at No Way Out against Lita, staking her own campaign for Lita's belt. In an emotional triple threat, Trish exacted revenge on both Lita and Mickie James to claim the Women's championship.
Money In The Bank
The annual Money In The Bank ladder match was held at Wrestlemania between Kane, Terry Funk, Jake Roberts, Jeff Hardy, Curt Hennig and Edge, with the Rated-R superstar stealing the victory, and with it, an opportunity to cash in his Money In The Bank contract at any time he wants for the WWE Championship.
Other happenings
Lance Storm has been looking to create a new all-Canadian alliance, recruiting Rene Dupree and Sylvain Grenier of La Resistance, as well as The Fabulous Rougeau's and Petey Williams. Embroiled in a feud between the Dudley Boyz and Spike Dudley, the Canadian Stampede (as it is being called) seem to be seeking dominion of Velocity in the name of the Great White North. Will the Dudley Boyz secure further assistance for the land of hope and glory against the ruthless Canadian alliance?
