I think what Meltzer means is that a 4 star match is no longer appreciated as much because of how many great matches we see.

In 2009, Meltzer didn't rate any matches 5 stars. This year there's already been 16.

And because Meltzer changed the scale to ridiculous lengths and a 4 star match is now pretty lame.

There has been some great wrestling this year. That much though? Don't make me guffaw.
