David was all but guaranteed to get the title. Kerry won it more or less as a tribute to David and wouldn't have gotten it otherwise.

How does NJPW work, do they have weekly tv shows or is it just big events every couple of months or so?
I don't watch it but from what I understand, their TV is mainly just stuff from live events, which are what the promotion is build around. They have big events a few times a year, but it's a lot of house shows with little emphasis on TV.
Do you think a social media influencer gimmick would work? Would a heel or face be best?
Heel. Those people can be quite annoying. NXT is basically doing it already with Grayson Waller and Stevie Turner.
