Artist's Work To Be Removed Because It's Deemed Offensive

    https://www.latimes.com/local/educat...213-story.html

Not a controversial title but what I find disturbing is how easily it seems to have gone through.

Basically the piece is deemed offensive to members of the Korean community because it looks like the Japanese flag from the Second World War. Now thats up for interpretation (i personally don't think so) but the disturbing thing is how there appears to have been no public vote on the matter. Its on a school which is a public building so surely the community as a whole should decide on what happens to it, not a particular group. There's also talk of the group going after other similar based imagery like the Arizona flag. The piece itself is open to interpretation but it gives a worrying thought on artistic and freedom of expression if something can be removed so easily when only a small group are against it

Since it is on school property, the school do what they wish with it. While I can understand both sides of the position, it ultimately does no harm to remove it.

There are much bigger problems in our country than this. Homelessness, poverty, drug abuse, crime, gun violence, etc. I guess it does no harm to remove the flag, but it does show how offended we get by little things while we've become almost indifferent to some much bigger issues.

I think it's a great example of just how weak we've allowed ourselves to become. For me, this is an example of why the term Political Correctness has become so reviled; there are people who're legitimately marginalized by other people's actions and words, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally, because they don't stop to think about what they're doing and calling out those people is the right thing to do. This, however, is something that stretches the definition of Political Correctness so broadly that it becomes a parody of itself.

There are legit issues out there to have a gripe with and this just comes off as trivial. These small, trivial things are more convenient and easier targets than the big issues, which seem hopeless because people can't agree on anything and politicians don't do anything but keep stoking the fires of discontent among people.

It's a school in Koreatown, not the wall of some art gallery.

Not exactly a hill to die on for the PC vs. Anti-PC brigade.

Normally, I'd agree if it wasn't the latest absurd thing to come about in the past few weeks. This comes in the wake of all the protests against the old Christmas song "Baby It's Cold Outside" as some feel the song advocates date rape or some such nonsense. Even if this had been in an art gallery, I think some would still have found a way to complain about it. Someone would've told someone else, or someone would've posted something on social media, word would've gotten around to Korean activists and they'd raise a stink even if there wasn't anything they could do.

Is it really? Not even the normal outrage rags like Huffington Post or The Blaze are covering this atm. Only thing I see out there is local and ABC News, which report anything meant to rile old people up. I wouldn't call this a hot item.

We've survived Wars on Christmas and Starbucks cups. From people that claim PC is ruining the country. This isn't close to the annual absurdity clogging social media.

This comes in the wake of all the protests against the old Christmas song "Baby It's Cold Outside" as some feel the song advocates date rape or some such nonsense.
There is an outraged minority amplified by an outraged majority sharing it online. That's about as "in the wake of all the protests" we can truthfully say about that.

From what I read about the artist and his plans if the school removes this...I'd chalk this up to a moment where lives should be got.

Breaking news I am sure knowing someone someday will complain about something.

Yeah it was pretty insensitive putting this up at that location. Not sure why this has turned into "BuT HoMeLeSSNeSS" then go fucking do something about it.
