We’re on the way to New Year’s Evil and that could go a variety of ways. Tonight we find out the new #1 contender to the NXT Title though as Pete Dunne faces Kyle O’Reilly. That could be a heck of a fight and that’s what NXT is shooting for with the showdown. Other than that, the whole show could be all over the place. Let’s get to it.

It’s the Christmas show as we have A Very Gargano Christmas. That’s special enough, but this show is also not up against Dynamite due to an NBA game so it should be interesting to see what they have on their own. We do have a title match tonight as the Tag Team Titles are on the line in a street fight. Let’s get to it.

It’s finally time to wrap up the year and that can’t come soon enough. This is the go home show for next week’s New Year’s Evil, but we also have a major night in that we are finding out the Year End Award winners. NXT makes these things out to be a big deal and hopefully they continue their trend this year. Let’s get to it.

The Stepping Stone

I've not given a shit about NXT in a long time to be honest. The people worth seeing get called up, sans for Ciampa, Gargano and the Undisputed Era (who I think will get called up soon anyhow). The women's division especially seems thin (although a lot of that comes from some callups I think were too early).

They really should just combine NXT UK with the regular NXT for the benefit of both.

The NXT women's division is pretty great. One of the best thing in WWE in my opinion.

I can take or leave the men's division currently.

the NXT Womens division is badass, and has been for a while. May be the deepest division in all of WWE.

NXT Men can use a bit of a shuffle, mainly by taking a few RAW/Smackdown people, and sending lower tier guys in their stead. But even then Balor, Kross, Ciampa, Cole, O'Reilly, Dunne is a really solid main event scene, especially when you realize the Womens division is so damn strong that they deserve the Main Event spot more often than not.

Raw and Smackdown cannot field a Womens Tag Team Division. NXT announced the first ever WOMENS Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.


Someone want to explain why the Womens Tag Titles have been seen on NXT like twice since their inception?

They are all currently in an established team together. And then much like a bunch of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics you include a few singles stars that join forces to win the prestigious tournament. People like:

Shotzi Blackheart/Ember Moon
Io Shirai/Rhea Ripley

They each have teamed together before. Hell Io/Rhea can follow the Samoa Joe/Finn Balor feud from way back at Dusty 1, where you win the tournament then one turns on the other and it morphs into a singles feud.

That's 6 teams right there.

The ladies left off the list that are on the NXT roster:
Aliyah
Chelsea Green (she's listed on WWE.com's NXT roster still, currently injured)
Mercedez Martinez
Tegan Nox (currently injured)
Toni Storm
Vanessa Borne
Xia Li.

This list completely ignores NXTUK. Add the 10 or so women on that roster to the bottom list.

And if they really want to, they can always have Regal reach out to WWE management to get 1 team from RAW and 1 from Smackdown (or from outside WWE), but they aren't really needed.
