A problem so unique to this medium; we don't cheer for these characters anymore. We're not rooting for our protagonists to win. Instead, we root for promoters to push our favourites. We're not along for the ride of the storyline anymore, we're all seeking validation from the office.

I guess this is an inevitability in a medium rooted in blurring the lines between fiction and reality, so ultimately I don't know if there's a way to mend this.
