It's been reported that New Japan's parent company, Bushiroad, has purchased the all female wrestling promotion Stardom. Rossy Ogama of Stardom and Takaaki Kitani of Bushiroad met back in April, apparently, and a deal wasn't finalized until sometime this past August. Stardom was founded back in 2010 and is responsible for giving female wrestlers like Io Shirai, Toni Storm, Bea Priestley, Mayu Iwatani and others some of their first major exposure.

It's a smart move and is similar to what's being alleged WWE wants to do concerning an NXT branch in Japan: purchase a promotion that's already built on a solid foundation and is established.

Technically, I guess New Japan hasn't bought its own women's division as Bushiroad could keep Stardom open as a separate promotion rather than sort of merge it with New Japan. That might all depend on how much cash Stardom pulls in, though you have to imagine it's probably not anything close to New Japan's revenue. The reports say that there are more details yet to be revealed, though who knows how long that'll take since this deal was said to have been finalized some two months ago.
